RE VOCATIONS ART WEEK YEAR 1
Year 1 went on the road to Emmaus to create an inspirational piece of ART. This will be judge by the bishop. Children took time to reflect as we continue the journey to WALK WITH JESUS.
Today in year 1 we were learning art skills to make Mother’s Day cards . Children experienced art skills to cut, shape, stick and design their cards. Children used a range of different strength paper to ensure the card was strong to hold the sticky paper .
In reception class, to celebrate Brilliant in Britain week, we learnt about some of the wonderful traditions and cultural celebrations that take place in Britain.
We talked about all of the different countries that our families originated from and the brilliant traditions that they brought to Britain.
We focused on The Gambia 🇬🇲 The children had lots of fun learning all about the different animals in Gambia, created animal masks and Gambian jewellery and even learnt some groovy Gambian dance moves!
In Guided Reading, we have been reading George's Marvelous Medicine by Roald Dahl. We are really enjoying it. We are using it to help us with our writing - where we are going to be writing our own set of instructions. This week, we made our own class medicine. We watched it change colour and foam. It even started to show a rainbow.
We used imperative verbs such as mix, pour, stir and fill to help us write our instructions.
Year 1 shared project they made with the whole class. We spoke about the different Castles around the world.
Year 2 have been learning about plants and how they grow. Our first experiment was to plant cress on some cotton wool and watch it grow. I wonder who will have the tallest cress???
In reception class we have been using our observational skills and artistic talents to paint stunning pieces of flower artwork. The children also enjoyed learning names of the flowers and and how the different parts of a flower work.
This year’s theme is ‘growth’ and to tie this in with Year 5’s Science theme (Earth and Space), we decided to design creates which we thought might live on Mars!
First, we researched the planet (the temperature, climate, landscape etc.) and then used this to decide that our creatures needed to:
To celebrate World Book Day, in Reception class we read one of our favourite traditional fairytales, Jack and the Beanstalk 🌱
We planted our very own Broad-Beanstalks, created Jack and the Beanstalk story book covers and built the Giant’s castle using 2D shapes.
We also had lots of fun creating our favourite story book characters using the play dough, drew pictures of ourselves and our friends wearing their character costumes and worked in teams to complete a story book scavenger hunt.
We had a fantastic Day!
